In its bid towards encouraging massive crop production in the state, the Jigawa Government says it has procured 20,000 metric tonnes of assorted fertiliser for sale to farmers during the current farming season.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Social Development and Community Inclusion, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad, who stated this at the weekend in Dutse, noted that the farmers would purchase the fertilisers at Federal Government’s approved rate of N5, 500 per bag.
According to him, the government has so far distributed more than 350 trucks of the product to its cluster farmers across the state, adding that each of the cluster farmers in rice production would receive six bags of `Urea and NPK’ types of the commodity.
“First and second consignments of the product have been distributed to the cluster farmers. And before the end of the exercise, 600 trucks were expected to be distributed to the cluster farmers,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad urged the farmers to visit any office of the Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) in their local government areas to purchase the product.

He stressed that the government was determined to halt the delay experienced by farmers in accessing the product, hence it would no longer allocate fertilisers to anyone.
He said that each sesame farmer would receive eight bags while their counterparts producing groundnut would receive four bags each.
